About Us

With a dream to foster innovation, sustainability, and excellence in agri-horticultural education, research, and community engagement, the Daffodil Multipurpose Educational Trust was established in 2019. The North East (NE) region of India has significant potential for agricultural development due to its diverse climate, abundant water resources, and unique range of crops, offering scope for high-value horticulture, organic farming, and value-added processing, particularly in areas like tea production, rubber cultivation, and specialised unique crops. However, challenges remain, such as low productivity, food processing facilities, shifting cultivation practices, and limited infrastructure for market access.

Economic development of the Country, especially the North Eastern region, including Assam, solely depends on agriculture. Management of natural resources like land, water, environment, biodiversity, etc., is a major challenge. For the development of the region and to bring it at par with the rest of the country, maximum emphasis needs to be given to Agriculture & Allied Sectors. Presently the region is still far behind the rest of the country in agricultural productivity, cropping intensity, irrigation, use of organics, fertilizers and pesticides, rain water harvesting, credit flow, marketing facilities, food processing, storage facilities, crop insurance, product diversification, value addition, use of Artificial Intelligence etc. Despite enormous potential with fertile land and surface water, the region in general and Assam in particular, is lagging far behind the Country’s average productivity of agricultural and horticultural crops.

For addressing such problems, there is a need for an adequate numbers of technical persons in these sectors. Considering such aspects, the Daffodil Multipurpose Educational Trust established the Daffodil College of Horticulture at Khetri in the year 2020 with affiliation under the Assam Science and Technology University and approval from the government of Assam.

Subsequently, in the year the DMET also established the College of Agriculture and Technology in the year 2023 and entered a crucial era with new visions and dimensions, pushing many options and opening up many new avenues in employment and economic sectors. DMET has long-term goals and strategies to empower the next generation as agricultural leaders and professionals and is

committed to provide world-class education in agriculture and allied sciences, conducting research addressing global agricultural challenges, promoting sustainable agricultural practices for food security and rural development and fostering industry-academia collaboration and entrepreneurship in the agricultural as well as horticultural sector.DMET is also committed to developing programs for capacity building among farmers and rural youth, offering consultancy services and extension activities for sustainable farming practices, and frequently undertaking collaborative activities with government and non-governmental organisations and other educational institutes of the region for rural upliftment. DMET have also established partnerships with leading agricultural institutions worldwide, facilitating student and faculty exchange programs.

Capacity building and continuous education programmes are an integral part of an organisation that likes to move forward with time. The courses offered in both of these colleges are based on the nationally recommended and accepted theory and practical works so as to provide a strong conceptual foundation under ambient, friendly and elegant conditions for those aspiring for obs in respective disciplines and also to become good entrepreneurs.

While the Public sector has a lot of limitations, system rigidity and a lot of formalities, the private sector has a lot of flexibility and can run such HRD programs most efficiently and effectively. Thus, it is evident that Daffodil College of Agriculture and Technology and Daffodil College of Horticulture are going to play a vital role in the years to come in fostering the development of agriculture and horticulture. The institution will increasingly function with a massive capacity of dedicated teachers devoted to producing the most efficient teaching and research forum for all aspects of agriculture and horticulture, with greater emphasis on frontier technology, organic agriculture & horticulture, environmental impact and climate change. Such an endeavour will allow
Specialisation of individual students to concentrate on developing their subject area at the forefront of knowledge.
